Shubhanshu reached space on Thursday morning along with three other astronauts from the United States, Poland, and Hungary. He is part of the Axiom-4 space mission. During the video call, Shubhanshu Shukla said, Namaste. I am now getting used to zero gravity. It feels like a child learning to walk or figuring out how to move. I am truly enjoying this moment. The Tricolor (Indian flag) always reminds me that all of you are with me. This is a strong step for India’s human space program and the upcoming Gaganyaan mission. I want each one of you to feel like a part of this mission.
Shubhanshu took off from Kennedy Space Center in florida
Shubhanshu Shukla, who was born in Lucknow, was launched aboard a new SpaceX Dragon spacecraft from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 2:31 AM EDT (12 PM IST). According to a NASA update, “After launching at 2:31 AM EDT on Wednesday from Kennedy Space Center, the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft is now orbiting the Earth and heading towards the International Space Station, carrying the four-member crew of the Axiom Mission 4.”
Aboard the Dragon are AX-4 Commander Peggy Whitson, Pilot Shubhanshu Shukla, and Mission Specialists Slawosz Uznanski-Wizniewski and Tibor Kapu. NASA stated that the spacecraft will dock with the space-facing port of the Harmony module at 7 AM on Thursday.
After 41 years, an Indian astronaut has returned to space. Shukla becomes the second Indian to travel to space, following Rakesh Sharma’s historic flight in 1984.

While on his way to the ISS, Shukla said in his message: “Namaste, my dear fellow countrymen. What a journey this is. After 41 years, we are once again in space. It’s an incredible experience. We are orbiting the Earth at a speed of 7.5 kilometers per second. This is not just my journey — I am carrying the Indian Tricolor with me.”
